UK Woman Convicted in Bizarre 'Cyber-Farting' Case—A Legal First

In a case you probably never imagined would exist, 25-year-old Rhiannon Evans has just made history—though not in a way she’d have hoped. On Wednesday, a court in Wales found her guilty in the UK’s first-ever ‘cyber-farting’ case. Her crime? Sending multiple videos of herself farting to her boyfriend’s ex, Deborah Prytherch, in what the prosecution described as an act of "malicious harassment."

The Verdict: Rehab, Alcohol Ban, and a Fine

The court wasn’t amused by Evans’ antics. She’s been slapped with a 15-session rehabilitation order, 60 days of alcohol abstinence monitoring, and a two-year restraining order. She must also pay £100 in compensation to the victim and cover £199 in court costs.

‘Booty Belches’ as Harassment?

Prosecutor Diane Williams didn’t hold back in court, detailing how Evans would record herself passing gas, smirking at the camera, and then sending the videos via WhatsApp. The victim, Prytherch, said these ‘booty belches’ left her feeling unsafe in her own home.

Evans: "It's Petty. This Generation Is Too Sensitive"

When police arrested Evans at her home in Caernarfon, she admitted to sending the videos. Her lawyer, Harriet Gorst, argued that Evans was intoxicated at the time and acted out due to tensions between her partner and his ex over child custody issues.

But Evans isn’t convinced she deserved such a harsh punishment. "I never thought farting would land me in court," she told The Sun. "This is petty. We are living in a very ‘snowflake’ generation."

Social Media Explodes Over 'Cyber-Farting'

The internet is, of course, having a field day with this. The case has gone viral, with memes and debates flooding X (formerly Twitter), TikTok, and Reddit. While some argue the punishment is excessive, others see it as a necessary crackdown on digital harassment.

So, what do you think? Is this a ridiculous overreaction, or does ‘cyber-farting’ count as real harassment in 2025? Drop your thoughts below!
